Swallow the Sun is a death/doom metal band from the university town of Jyväskylä in central Finland. The band has steadily attracted a growing and loyal fan base, as well as steadfast critical acceptance, in Europe and the USA. Now Swallow the Sun is taking on Japan at this year’s Finland Fest.

Unlike countless other bands of their ilk around the globe, Pepe Deluxé actually got noticed, with critically acclaimed albums and a bunch of songs synced around the world. Levi’s ad featuring the song Before You Leave won a Golden Lion at Cannes and the song hit #20 on the UK charts. Throughout their decade-plus career, the band has synced songs for countless ads, games, movie trailers and TV-shows.

What started out as a bedroom solo project for Johannes Leppänen has turned into a tune-laden touring machine with a ferocious work ethic. And they have two gigs at this year’s Eurosonic! With three lead singers, a sun drenched bucketful of catchy indie songs with more hyperkinetic guitars than you can shake a can of Battery at and thousands upon thousands of European miles on their odometer, they are a force to be reckoned with. No ironic detachment on offer here.

Music Finland’s Board of Directors has appointed Tuomo Tähtinen as the first Executive Director of Music Finland. Tähtinen will commence his new post on February 1st, 2012.
