- The pivotal event draws the entire Finnish industry to check out bands and discuss new developments in Tampere October 21st - 24th
Music & Media, the annual Finnish music trade fair provides the most effective viewpoint to the Finnish music industry as well as a chance to meet the shakers and makers of the business. This years Music & Media has gained a substantial amount of interest from international music industry professionals. This is both due to the recent Finnish success stories - artists such as HIM, The Rasmus and Nightwish entering (and topping) charts worldwide and the active international reach of the event.
This year Music & Media celebrates its 15th anniversary. Music & Media has become increasingly international each year, and has brought names such as Richard Gottehrer (The Orchard), Peter Smidt (Conamus) and Steve Lee (EMI/Virgin) into the conversation. Unifying the Finnish recording, publishing and live music industries, the conference has matured into the most important event in Finlands music business calendar.
Music & Media provides an apt place to meet with all the key people in Finland and discuss topical issues both in export and import as well as to discover some of the latest Finnish talent at various showcases in evenings. Finnish artists are gaining more and more interest all over the world, and Music & Media is the place where companies present their new talents and already established artists.
Distinguished guests lead the way to highly involving panels
Panels and seminar discussions during this years Music & Media include discussions on the new copyright law, a focus on promoting overseas acts at festivals and a debate on new revenue streams chaired by Emmanuel Legrand of Billboard Magazine. Anyone who has followed the progress of digital music services knows that Finland has acted as a sort of a compact test ground for the new technological innovations. Thus it is only natural that the techies and the issues will also be present. The latest figures on the Total Market Value of Finnish Music Exports will also be revealed during the event.
Finlands activity in music exports will certainly be noted this year: this is evident e.g. in the record amount of participating companies and showcases in Berlins Popkomm and at In The City in Manchester. This combined with Finnish successes abroad makes Finland a market to keep an eye on.
