FINNISH MUSIC CAPTURED THE ATTENTION OF INTERNATIONAL BUYERS AND MEDIA AT MIDEM 2004

Last week’s Midem International Music Market in Cannes was a notable success for Finnish companies attending the joint Music Export Finland stand. The 50+ participants made deals and established new networks. There were licenses of music to films, Kimmo Pohjonen and Värttinä programme sales to TV channels and remix-album contracts carved out as well. Remarkably many companies made distribution deals for digital distribution of their music. The participants thanked the comprehensive contact opportunities Midem provides and the attention brought by the active marketplace of the Finnish stand. New partners were found all the way from Japan and Taiwan.

Among the participants was Nokia, whose new Visual Radio concept and it’s latest application 7700 model phone were introduced to the music world. The phone was demonstrated using the music of the Finnish newcomer KKane.

Another satisfied attendee was the classical music hothouse ONDINE, celebrating their 20th Anniversary next year. Ondine bagged two awards at the Midem Classical awards including Disc of the Year for their Peteris Vasks album. Additionally, Antti Siirala who records for Ondine, performed for a full house of international Midem audience.

Finn attention

Finnish companies and their product received plenty of media attention as well. Midem publications reported on several product launches and artist news. Billboard recognized Finland as the a music country on the biggest rise on par with Denmark who hosted the opening event.

To finish it all in a bash, The Black Monday Party organized at the stand gathered more than 400 music professionals to meet with their Finnish collagues.
