The Helsinki-based rhythm monster Giant Robot has signed a deal with STUPIDO RECORDS, resulting in Best Match CDS which will feed the appetite of drooling fans in August. The latest release of the Stupido talent reservoir is the self-titled album by Boy Novice, a quartet hailing from Dublin, Boston and Turku. The debut is an appealing mixture of dub-inspired hip-hopnotic beats, spacey herbal-influenced Middle Eastern blues and experimental, breathy, dancemusic.

ROCKADILLO RECORDS’ ambient jazz treasure, RinneRadio,  has been invited to support Massive Attack in Riga, Latvia (June 16) as the only support band of the 20.000 capacity stadium show. Further tour dates here. The mesmerising new CD Lumix is out all over Scandinavia via Bonnier Amigo. Rockadillo´s world-wide phenomena, the accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen has a busy summer ahead with several high profile international performances including Roskilde Festival (June 28) and the prestigious Royal Albert Hall The Proms in London (August 2), to be broadcast live by BBC radio.

POKO RECORDS threw a fabulous gold & platinum sea cruise party in Helsinki to celebrate their recent successes. Awarded artists include  with triple and double platinums, Popeda with a platinum and a gold record,  with two gold records, J.Karjalainen & Electric Sauna with a gold record, and director Alexi Mäkelä and Solar Films with platinum for the soundtrack of the hit movie Pahat Pojat (Bad Boys) which actually amounted to the best selling local soundtrack in Finland ever!

Exciting summer ahead for EXOGENIC. The boys will keep on grooving on their traditional stage at Koneisto, the biggest and most beautiful electronic music festival in the Nordic countries. [Don’t miss the wackiest festival website!] Exogenic Records teams up with Thirteen Productions to bring in the finest psy-trance to the 10,000+ expected festival visitors. Performances include Accu, DJ Genki and a special jam-session gig of Koneveljet and Reuna. The phenomenally funky Accu will have a chance to field test their new material of the upcoming single and album (August 2003) also in London where they will sweat London’s stylish Cargo Club on July 3.

The jagged Finnish hard-rock group Kotiteollisuus of JOHANNA PUBLISHING won this year´s Muuvi award for best Finnish music video with their song Rakastaa/Ei rakasta (Loves Me/Loves Me Not). The video, directed by Pete Veijalainen tells a realistic story about one of those frantic Friday nights of three small town boys.

A lot has been going on again at the SPINEFARM camp. The exceptional folk metal group Ensiferum will record a studio album in Copenhagen together with Flemming Rasmussen whose merits include co-operation with bands like Metallica. The hottest band of this summer will definitely be the hard’n’ sensual Lowe Motor Corporation fronted by ultra sexy Claudia Carnall. Their furious debut single, Soul of a Pagan is out now followed by their fast’n'whipping video. Spinefarm continues spreding their goodies further outside Finland. The Flaming Sideburns album Sky Pilot is out now in North America (Jetset Records) and will be released in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany and Spain by Universal. The latest Spinefarm metal treasure Charon is preparing a new album of which the first single, In Trust Of No One saw daylight on May and immediately topped the Finnish single chart.

One of the Finnish Music Information Centre’s (FIMIC) priorities in 2003-2004 is promoting Finnish jazz artists and to map out European jazz festivals. On July 6 Copenhagen will experience the hottest artists of Finnish mainstream and nu-jazz realms as FIMIC teams up with the Finnish Institute in Copenhagen and Copenhagen Jazz Festival. The jazz crusaders are U-Street All Stars’  with their energetic hard-bop spiced with modern edge; the flagbearers of Finnish nujazz Nuspirit Helsinki and the ultra sensuous, breaky rhythm Quintessence
