At this year's The Great Escape, be prepared to witness a different side of Finland from the one you're used to... That's assuming you've ever been exposed to a side. No metal, love or otherwise, and no man-machine eclecticism. Instead of cool northern detachment, it's hot northern passion and much love for loudness...
The Finnish contingent at The Great Escape offers the frenzied folk-punk of Jaakko & Jay (Fullsteam Records), the ocean swell of shoegazing generated by Joensuu 1685 (Kaiku Studios / Bone Voyage), passionate alternative rock by Manna (Suomen Musiikki) and VUK (Kaiku Studios) on a breathtaking tightrope walk between stellar hooks and avant-garde art rock.
On top of all this, the renowned London-based Nordic Club night JA JA JA drags its bones to Brighton and presents a special evening with a line-up featuring three Nordic acts. The evening starts with a free-drinks party at the Queens Hotel (Sandringham Suite) at 7.30pm, which all the Great Escape delegates are welcome to attend.
