The company’s music game WildChords grabbed the €7500 first prize at the Match Point pitching competition

Ovelin, a Finland-based start-up, is announced as the winner of Match Point, a Pitching Competition for Digital Music Start-ups. The competition took place on Saturday, October 22nd at the Music & Media Finland conference in Tampere, Finland, and the winner was announced at the Industry Awards Gala following the conference event.

WildChords is a learning game which cleverly combines an entertaining gaming experience with instrument learning to enable players to boost their instrument skills while having fun. WildChords will be available for iPad and its back-end technology uses the device’s built-in microphone to recognize the player's instrument sound. Earlier this year, WildChords was chosen as the Best European Learning Game 2011.

“Match Point gave us a great opportunity to present WildChords to a professional jury and the Finnish music industry. Our concept combines the elements Finland is known for: music, games, high-tech and education. We are excited to launch the game on November 2nd at Slush conference in Helsinki”, tells Ovelin founder Mikko Kaipainen.

Presented by Music Export Finland, Music & Media Finland and TAG Strategic, the Northern Dimension Music Innovation Award aims at empowering the booming music start-up scene in the Northern Dimension catchment, which covers the Nordic countries, the Baltic states and Russia. The pitching competition final featured start-ups from four countries. The other finalists were Audiodraft, gogoyoko, LiveMusicStage.com, MusicDNA (BACH Technology), Netiraadio (Muusikamaailma) and SongHi.
