Top jazz trumpeter Verneri Pohjola (Suomen Musiikki) is releasing a new record called Hot Pot Place Around The Corner, and what makes it stand out from your run-of-the-mill jazz album named after an ethnic restaurant around the corner is the fact the the ethnic restaurant ain't ethnic. If you're playing with Chinese musicians, the hot pot place around the corner is just the hot pot place around the corner. Nothing more, nothing less.
The record brings together musicians from Helsinki and Shanghai in the spirit of true collaboration, but the original composition, minus a jazz standard or two, were penned by Pohjola.
